Who Are We? | ||||||

Crapsey Family of NorthWest OhioWe are but one small portion of the greater Crapsey clan. We hail from Toledo, Ohio. I believe all of us children, except Robert, were born at St. Vincent's Hospital in Toledo. We lived with our paternal grandparents from approximately early 1970 until their deaths. We lived for all of those years on the North side of Toledo. We lived right across from a Gospel singing church, which later bought both of our grandparents' houses, tore them down, and created a larger parking lot for the church. After their deaths, we had a hectic year, and finally moved in with our mother and step-father in West Toledo in January of 1978. Just one week before the great blizzard of '78. Boy the stories we have of that! Our oldest brother's girlfriend moved with us, and welcome a new baby to the clan that following August. Our biological father is one of a total of 13 children born to Joseph Leroy Crapsey Sr and Mildred (Kelly) Crapsey. 10 of those children would live to have children of their own, with our Uncle Robert taken sadly from us in 1969. We have more cousins that I can possibly recall! We were closest to our Uncle, William, we call Bo, as children. We were always around Bo and Aunt Tina, spending many summers with them. Their four children, William Jr, Lisa, Christopher, and James, are all within the same age group as myself, Wallace, and Robert. When Aunt Tina used to take us to the drive-in movie, the employees would always be flabbergasted that she had so many children. I am told that all Crapseys are related. I believe that the name comes from the German, but have heard variations of that. My research indicates that there was some Von Cropsey's, Cropsey's, and possibly Crabtree's, that are all the same descendents. I believe that Joseph Sr was of Dutch and some German descent, while Mildred was of Irish and Native American descent. (I remember the stories she would tell of her mom/grandmom. I can't recall which, but she was a full-blooded Native American who married an Irish immigrant.) From our mother, we bring in the Flick side of the family, and more Dutch and some German. All told, we are Dutch, German, Irish, and Native American. What a combination! Personally, I think we look more Dutch than anything. I am told that there were several Crapsey's in the Pennsylvania Dutch land, so that doesn't shock me. You may find out more about each of us children by clicking the links above.
